Research interests

My research focuses on understanding the impacts of global change on marine biodiversity, with a particular emphasis on coral-dominated ecosystems. My overarching goal is to contribute to their management and conservation. To this end, I work across systems—from tropical to temperate—and across scales, combining field-based studies of species, population, and community responses to disturbances (e.g., marine heatwaves) with regional and global analyses that uncover broader macroecological patterns.

Besides research, I really enjoy teaching and mentoring students. I have delivered lectures at undergraduate and master’s levels at the University of Barcelona, the University of Hawai‘i, and the University of Cabo Verde, covering topics such as marine ecology, conservation biology, scientific diving for benthic monitoring, global change ecology, and coral reef structure and function.

Outside of academia, I enjoy activities that keep me connected to nature and the ocean. I am passionate about travelling and spend as much time as possible in the water through scuba diving and surfing. When I am in the mountains, I also enjoy hiking and skiing.
