Research interests

I am a quantitative marine ecologist with interests in coral reef ecology, ecosystem restoration, and the application of innovative technologies to monitor ecological systems.
My path into marine biology began during a Tropical Marine Ecology and Conservation study abroad program in Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean, where I investigated sponge pumping rates across depth gradients. This experience ignited my passion for marine biology and led to positions as a marine science educator and scuba instructor in California, followed by three years working in coral restoration across the Caribbean.
I recently completed my PhD in Biology at the University of St Andrews in the Macroscope Lab. My doctoral research combined photogrammetry and laser scanning to create 3D models of corals, allowing me to study how morphology develops as corals grow and how these structures influence the growth and survival of neighboring colonies.
Beyond research, I enjoy teaching and have served as a lab demonstrator for various undergraduate biology modules. As an avid scuba diver and certified instructor, I have also assisted in the delivery of the Scientific Diving module at St Andrews, where I helped aspiring marine biologists build the technical skills needed to conduct research underwater.
Currently, I am working as the Database Manager for the BioTIME Database, supporting global biodiversity research by curating and expanding the world’s largest collection of biodiversity time series.
